As a child, he eagerly sat on his mother's lap beside his brother James, listening to her recount the story of creation and the promise of a Messiah who would one day rescue His people. Today, he's still filled with wonder, but he is too scrawny to help his family haul in the large catch of fish they desperately need to pay the Roman tax. And that's a problem, since his father faces prison if they cannot gather enough coins in time.The Messiah his mother spoke of could not come soon enough. A salesman in the marketplace assures John: One day, the Messiah will 'punish the wicked, overthrow the Romans, and give those tax collectors what they deserve."Before long, John encounters an eccentric preacher known as the Baptizer, who insists the Messiah is not only real but already walking among them. He even reveals the Messiah's name: Jesus.Driven by desperation, John sets out to find Jesus, hoping the Messiah might solve his family's financial crisis.
