The Artificial Chest of AI

The following is a New Adam Project commentary on the following article What Would C.S. Lewis Have Thought of AI, originally published by Chroniclesmagazine.com. The captivating thing about men like Lewis is their ability to see through the smoke and understand the heart of the matter. Plenty of historical figures like him appear in contemporary media, but only a handful have so captured our trust that we can’t help but imagine what they would say of our time or about the heart of our matters. Fortunately for us, this is not alway as impossible as it sounds, since getting to “the heart of a matter” gives birth to timelessness. And timelessness is a hallmark of Lewis’s insight. “There’s nothing new under the sun,” the preacher of Ecclesiastes so famously remarks. For a long time, I failed to understand that he means “[At the heart of things] there’s nothing new under the sun.” Of course, we now have “new” things like cars and computers and sliced bread and AI.
