Whether we like it or not, our values, decisions, and habits are not formed in a vacuum. They are governed by the paradigms we learn from childhood, which we rely on to organize the world around us. Many go their whole lives unaware of the paradigms that shape them. But a wise man can recognize them and regularly evaluates them by the standard of God’s Word. …which leads to the issue at hand: we live in an age of impatience—a result of the paradigms that rule the moment. One troublesome side effect: it quietly affects the way we pray. The apostle Paul charged the Roman church not to be “conformed to this world” but to be transformed by the renewing of the mind.
